can you tell me about being a franchise owner?

I am searching for business ideas…I would like to know what I would have to bring to the table if i planned on buying in to a franchise. Do i just support the initial cost to get it started? Do i have to hire all employees? How big of a part would i play? what would my agenda look like from day to day if this was me?…thanks in advance.

I have a few questions about rats?

I don’t have any pet rats YET (lol), but I plan on getting some very soon. I’ve been researching them online and I bought a few books about them. From what I learned, I decided I’m going to get two or three male rats from a local breeder.

I’m getting this cage:
http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2753352
(Don’t worry, I’m getting a plastic comfort wheel, not using the metal one)

And I have the following items for my rats:
A wooden chew toy with a nut in the middle, a hanging chew-kabob thing, chewbular tunnel, nesting grass, ping pong balls, an igloo (for hiding and nesting), multiple boxes for playing, ladders (including the ramps that come with the cage), lots of chew things, frozen peas (and other various vegetables and fruits), carefresh bedding, yogurt treats, a chew-proof 12 oz. water bottle, and this cage for travel (and picking my rats up from the breeder):
http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2753299

I have a few questions though,
What food would be better for my rats, Mazuri or Carefresh Complete rat food? (Those are the two options I have from my pet store…)
Also, Are all the items I got acceptable for rats?? Is there anything more I should get?

Thank you!

Question about a Rat Cage?

I found a cage online that I would like to buy for my two future boy rats. (Litter was just born, they’ll be ready in January.) It’s actually a bird cage, but I can easily fit levels and ladders and hammocks and toys into it. However the dimensions are 18×18x38. The online Rat Caluclator said I can fit 3 rats in there, but to me (with the help of a tape measurer) it dosent look like enough space.

Is this size okay? Or should I just keep looking?
Yeah, I thought it was small as well! I didn’t like the sound of the dimensions from the start, but I thought I’d check it out anyway. I used the following calculator. If anyone knows of a better, more acurate one, please tell me!

Just to clarify, I’m only getting two little boys. The rat calculator said I could house 3.

Is there anything that can be done about a private student loan when I have no job and I have a co-signer?

I have a couple of private student loans. The reason being having gone to a private school. I expected to get a descent paying job right out of college. Worse-case scenario, have more than one job for the time being. I stayed in the city where my college was located for a few months and worked part-time at a pizza shop. I had no luck finding a second job or a full-time job. The job market is down. I’ve looked and looked and no luck. My mom requested that I move back home and I agreed, figuring I might have better luck finding a job there. I have not been able to make any loan payments and I am two months behind. My great-grandmother was my co-signer and the lenders keep calling and hassling her. I understand that’s what they are supposed to do, but is there anything that can be done? Consolidation is an option, but there’s no money coming in anywhere. I know that when she signed as a co-signer she made herself liable for my short-comings, but is there another way around this? I would ask my mother for help, but she is no position to hand over money. Please offer me any advise possible. Thank you.

About Arescom Router and WEP Passwords?

I want to play nintendo wifi on my Arescom router with my nintendo ds. It doesn’t work, and the problem is listed below. I searched the nintendo wifi site and it said this:

What it says:
My security settings are not supported or are not compatible
If your network name (SSID) is displayed on the Nintendo DS with a gray locked icon (pictured below), then your router is set up with security that is not supported by the Nintendo WFC. The Nintendo WFC is only compatible with the WEP security setting. WPA and other security settings are not compatible.

Solution:

You will need to either change your security settings on your router to “WEP” (recommended), or disable all security. For information on changing the security settings of your router, click here.

How do I change the security settings? (the last bit on the solution)
Thank SO MUCH if you can find out.

How would you research how well a typical type of business can do? How do go about owning one? IE. Subway?

Just going from restaurant to restaurant especiallly the ones that I like and know are popular to everyone I wonder how much money its pulling in. Also like to think about how the owner got about buying his business and how long it took him to start seeing profits. I know location is important, so lets say its a good location. What would be the income a typical McDonalds/StarBucks/Any popular franchise/ owner is pulling in…Are most businesses first financed by a group of people who split the overhead fees and than later on split the profits because it seems a down payment could be very expensive. McDonalds would be expensive because its really big, how much would you have to save up if you wanted to start a subway for example? Probably look at having enough money saved up so that the first 8 months are so of property rent/paying employees/product cost are taken care of.. Thanks for the information
So if you were to start a unfranchised business, one that you came up with yourself… ie (custom computers building/Fitness Gym/Daycare).. besides payroll/products just the renting of the location at for instance a shopping mall or a shopping center how much would you need a month typically. I heard that its harder if you try to get a bank to finance something that is not a franchise, or you have to have a really good business plan laid out.
