It would depend on the person who owned the franchise.

Are they selling it because they were profitable and ready to retire?
They had no luck in the business.
Are there changes within the franchise headquarters itself and the person knew about it and wanted out?
The franchise owner could have found out that this was not the thing for them.
There are many reasons for selling the franchise. You need to do your homework in that department.

On the upside, that franchise may have a client list already built up that you can take over. (A little easier than starting your clientele from scratch)
Also the inner workings of the business have been started. You would be coming into an established business from the previous owner. It just may need a little tweaking.

A franchise is the way to go when starting your own business. The supplies, tools, support, and resources are available to you unlike starting your own business where everything is from scratch.

Business partner – I cannot answer that one but do know some people in my industry that did go into a franchise with partners. They have been successful and have bounced ideas off of each other.

But having the wrong partner can backfire.
